The transparency of the Professional Water Colour is achieved by W&N’s unique process of pigment dispersion during manufacture. The natural characteristics of each pigment highlights the paint’s transparency level. In water colour painting, thin washes are applied allowing the white of the paper to reflect through the wash.

Brown Madder is an intense brown colour. Its richness creates layered dark mixes which are useful for an autumn palette. It can be used as an alternative to Burnt Sienna. Please note that due to a pigment change there may be two different product formulations in circulation. Pigment PR206 is being phased out and replaced by PR179. PR179 provides a colour that technically cannot be closer to the original, but is not identical.
