It also encourages lots of fun elf activities, not least the elf home, especially in December, when elves are extra frisky.

What does the elf get up to while we others are sleeping? Perhaps washing clothes, baking Christmas cakes, decorating a Christmas tree or building a snowman. All the things we others do during the Christmas season, but in a mini-version. In this way, the family’s little ones can look forward to waking up, because they will get to see if the little elf has been at work again.
